A DIY gazette of myth, memory, music and strange local history.

The stranger chamber

Crypts of Velunia

The Crypts of Velunia are for the material that does not sit neatly in the daylight: myths, hauntings, monsters, legends, invented histories, half-truths, local fears and stories best approached with a little suspicion.

This is where Velunia follows the colder thread: ruined towers, old houses, graveyards, river fog, strange figures, bad omens and whatever continues to move in the corner of local memory.

What Belongs Here

The Crypts are not concerned with proving every story true. They are concerned with why stories survive, what they reveal about a place, and how fear, memory and imagination attach themselves to stone, water, woodland and ruin.

A local legend does not need to be factual to be meaningful. It can still carry warnings, grief, humour, class feeling, religious memory, industrial trauma or the pressure of something older than the town itself.

Send Something Strange

Velunia welcomes fragments of folklore, family stories, local hauntings, rumours, half-remembered tales and strange observations connected to Bo’ness, Kinneil and the Inner Forth.

Not everything needs to be polished. Sometimes a fragment is enough.
